If you have a mass in the hand or foot area, it’s important to be on the safe side and see your doctor to have it diagnosed. The mass could be a tumor, arthritis, or even a ganglion cyst. An X-Ray or an MRI can be taken to help rule out if it is a tumor or arthritis and confirm that it is a ganglion cyst.
Hollywood Diagnostics, one of the leaders in the diagnostic arenas, is located in the South Florida area and has state-of-the-art technology and a staff that is unparalleled in providing patient care and knowledge in the medical field.
What Is a Ganglion Cyst?
They are lumps that are filled with a fluid that is jelly-like consistency and can be found along joints or tendons of writs, hands, feet, and ankles. They are not cancerous but can cause difficulty in mobility and pain.
- Limit movement: Since activity can cause it to grow, wear a splint or a brace to help keep that joint from moving. This is not a cure, as wearing a brace too much will cause muscle weakness.
- Draining the cyst: Your doctor may drain the cyst with a needle. At times the cyst may return
- Surgery: Your doctor may decide this may be an option, especially if other approaches fail to work.
