What to Expect When Receiving an MRI

Aug 25, 2020

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedure is used to detect abnormalities within the body that have otherwise impossible to diagnose. The device used for an MRI uses a powerful magnetic field that create radio frequency pulses that allow a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, small tissues and bones. This is one of the procedures that you are able to receive at the Hollywood Diagnosticss Center. The Hollywood Diagnosticss Center is a leader in the medical Diagnosticss field while performing over 30,000 Diagnostics procedures annually.  The center continues to be at the forefront of medical technology by progressively updating its equipment and procedures to reflect the latest advances in medicine.

Day of the Exam

On the day of your exam you’re going to be asked to where a gown. Wear clothing with minimal metal such as zippers and definitely no jewelry. No electronics or other metal items are allowed within the scanning room. You will be placed upon a moveable exam table. This table will tilt based on where the scan is being taken.

These procedures may take up to an hour. Although it may be difficult, it is important to remain perfectly still for the duration of the scan. Movement could cause errors in the imaging and results. You will know when images are being recorded because you will hear and feel loud tapping or thumping sounds when the coils that generate the radiofrequency pulses are activated.

Post-Exam

Once all of the imaging sequences have been completed, one of our board-certified radiologists will review the images and provide written results. A copy of the written report will be faxed to your referring provider within 72 hours. Your referring provider will then review the results and proposed treatment plan with you.
